Paddy Power Hacked - 649,000 Cutomer Details Stolen

Irish bookmakers Paddy power got hacked and 649,000 customer details have been stolen. The details including names, addresses, dates of birth, and security question and answers. Only customers signed up to 2010 were affected. The data breach happened in 2010, but company revealed it yesterday. The company said, "Only the personal information was stolen, not financial details".

Managing director of Paddy Power's online division,Peter O'Donovan said "We sincerely regret that this breach occurred and we apologize to people who have been inconvenienced as a result.We take our responsibilities regarding customer data extremely seriously and have conducted an extensive investigation into the breach and the recovered data.That investigation shows that there is no evidence that any customer accounts have been adversely impacted by this breach".

Why the Company Waited To Say About The Breach ?

The reason is not clear, but we can say " It is because the data breach can cause severe damage to the reputation of company".

It is reported that, the data stolen from the company is in the possession of a person from Toronto.It is unknown that, whether that person had been attempting to sell the data.

In May, this year the company liaised with local police in Ontario. Then the company verified that the data, the person holding had come from its system. The case has now been referred to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for an investigation.

The ICO said "The company failed to sufficiently secure its data against the threat of hackers".
